NFL Power Rankings: Week 3
Lots of movement in the rankings this week, especially in the top ten. Again, I want to point out to the readers that I will not be ranking teams high based on what they did last year. If you are not reaching your potential and losing games, I don’t care if you were a Super Bowl favorite; you’re going to be ranked low. Enjoy!

how can you have the 49ers at 7th? they have statistically THE WORST offense in the whole league! that has to account for something!

I know San Fran being 7th is surprising and I figured some people wouldn’t understand why.. so let me explain.
First off, statistical rankings don’t mean a thing after the first two weeks. The stats that you looked at to see that San Fran has the 32nd ranked offense also shows Denver has the best. Yet Denver is averaging only 0.5 points more than the Niners per game and 19 less than the second ranked Patriots. So don’t fall in love with statistical rankings after two weeks.
Second. The Niners have won two games against division rivals, including an impressive road win against the Rams. They have put themselves in GREAT position to have the best division record after only two weeks.
Third: Approximately 70% of teams since the merger who have started 2-0 have gone on to make the playoffs. I think the exact figure was 68.8 or something.
Fourth: The two teams ahead of the Niners are the Broncos and Chargers. Broncos barely beat Oakland and Buffalo, both winless bottomfeeders. Chargers have showed that they have no offense so far. The three teams behind the Niners are Bears, Packers, and the Redskins. I’m not convinced that any of those three teams are better than the Niners as of this point in the season. I think the Packers might be, but again, it’s only week two.
Lastly: The Niners won two division games and shouldn’t be ranked below teams who haven’t handled their business. It’s a new season, everyone starts fresh, and they are loaded with young talent. Hence, the 7th spot ranking.
