College Football: Game by Game Predictions Week 1

Here are my very first, weekly college football predictions. Since it’s the first week and I don’t have enough knowledge on all the teams yet, I’m going to hold off on doing my over/under versus the Vegas lines. I’ll start that next week. For now, I’ll tell you what kind of game it will be by predicting the winning team’s margin of victory by the following key (and P.S., excuse the Excel gridlines…):

Nail-biter: 1-3

Close: 4-8

Solid: 9-15

Beatdown: 16-25

Trashing: 26-40

Embarrassment: 41+ pts

This week’s picks are weaksauce. I know this. But it’s the first week of the season and no one except Cal and Tenn are dumb enough to have their first game against a formidable opponent. Look for upsets next week. This is a week to relax and enjoy your team cruise to victory. Next week is when you start stressing.

I really don’t see UT losing to Cal. The distance may be a factor… in keeping it within a touchdown as opposed to a 2-3 touchdown thrashing.

Shaun A. Says:

Cal isn’t going to let UT ruin their season in the first game of the year for a second consecutive year. It also helps that they went 8-0 at home last year, and as you pointed out, Tenn will be traveling cross country for an opener. Tenn has the better talent but Cal has the intangibles (homefield, revenge-factor) to pull off a win in a close game.

Glennon for the “Ronyell Whitaker-I’m-a-worthless-asshole” award.

I heard beamer was redshirting Mechanic this year. We should see him on the field next season.
